The 2007 Hyundai Entourage

More standard safety features than any other minivan, plus space to spare.

[Edmunds]
Hyundai went all out to play the family card during the introduction of its Entourage minivan. The display was staged as a grade-school play complete with child actors who got up and professed their love of safety, value and the right to 13 cupholders. It was a little predictable, but it did get Hyundai's point of safety and value across even if you zoned out at the first sign of marketing spiel.

A close cousin of the Kia Sedona minivan introduced last year, the 2007 Entourage is Hyundai's first minivan. Although it shares its basic platform and design with the Sedona, the Entourage gets enough unique styling elements that you won't immediately mistake it for the Kia. Projector-beam headlights, more prominent front-quarter panels and an SUV-esque rear end make the Entourage look as good as any other minivan out there.

At 202 inches in length, the Entourage is big. It's an inch longer than a Honda Odyssey and 2 inches longer than a Toyota Sienna. A 118.9-inch wheelbase places the Hyundai just shy of the Sienna for room between the wheels, but still an inch more stretched out than the Odyssey.

The standard seating arrangement puts captain's chairs in the first and second rows and a three-person split-folding bench seat in the third row. Like most of the competition, the third row folds flat into the floor for extra cargo room, but only the Entourage offers window switches for the third-row quarter windows. Michael Dietz, planning manager for the Entourage, also showed us an accessory we hadn't seen before — removable storage compartments that fit into the area of the floor left open when the third-row seat is up, a smart idea.

There will be three trim levels for the Entourage: GLS, SE and Limited. All come with a long list of safety features which includes electronic stability control; antilock brakes; six airbags (front, side, curtain); traction control; and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Base GLS models get tri-zone climate control, full power accessories, chrome trim, and 16-inch wheels. Move to the SE and you get dual power-sliding doors, 17-inch wheels, power rear windows, automatic dual-zone climate control, and a power driver seat. Limited models are decked out with heated leather seats, special gauges and a power rear liftgate.

All trim levels of the Entourage get the same drivetrain: a 3.8-liter V6 connected to a five-speed automatic. With 242 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque, the Entourage has as much power as any minivan on the market. Not bad when you consider that the Entourage will start at $23,795, about the same as the entry-level Toyota Sienna CE.

What's Edmunds' Take?
It's one of the better-looking minivans we've seen in awhile and with its long list of features, low price and great warranty there's no reason not to consider it when it goes on sale later this year. — Ed Hellwig
